CASL Update – Final Industry Canada Regulations Released

On December 4, 2013, Industry Canada released their long-awaited final Regulations for Canada’s Anti-Spam Law (CASL).

It is critical for organizations to ramp up compliance efforts before the commercial electronic message provisions in CASL comes into force on July 1, 2014. To facilitate compliance with the provisions related to computer programs, those sections will come into force on January 15, 2015. To further reduce uncertainty for Canadian business regarding how CASL will be interpreted, the Private Right of Action will be enacted three years from the initial scheduled enactment of CASL, on July 1, 2017. Information regarding obligations for businesses and individuals under CASL are available at the “Fight Spam” Web site at http://fightspam.gc.ca.

Since there are some important changes and new interpretations, PrivaTech will be hosting important webinars to discuss how these recent developments affect your CASL compliance initiatives. We will also cover the guidelines and FAQs that will be released by Industry Canada and the CRTC prior to PrivaTech’s webinar dates.
