Privacy and data security are top areas of focus for many risk and compliance officers across organizations in Canada. I would like to take this opportunity to share some recent great resources with you:
- Most privacy assessments I conduct now incorporate a review of how Bill 64, Quebec’s new stricter privacy standard, will have an impact on the business’s operations. As you start preparing for implementation of the Bill, check out Denton’s review of key Bill 64 provisions (including a chart comparing Bill 64, PIPEDA and the GDPR).
- On the cybersecurity front, Blakes offers a number of useful articles, and a recent review of use of the dark web for the execution of cybercrime is worth reading, in order to avoid, prepare and respond to such attacks.
- Lexpert’s release of an article written by an Oslers employment and labour lawyer on employers mandating vaccines answers many COVID-19 questions on return to work and employee privacy. Note that security best practice needs to also be considered when collecting identifying information about vaccine status. Vaccine passport app Portpass may have exposed users’ personal data like drivers’ licenses and photos of registered user last month.
A recent article from the IAPP highlights that the privacy job market is ‘red hot’. Consider certification as a privacy professional in Canada! PRIVATECH’s CIPP/C training course Oct. 27-29 is almost full. CLICK HERE to find out more or register. Last day to register is Thursday October 21st.
